WHAT IS KUBERNETES?   

Kubernetes is an open-source tool created by Google and currently developed by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. It is intended for the orchestration of environments in the architecture of microservices which are usually based on Docker. It facilitates application development and deployment owing to automation of numerous manual processes. Its use is recommended in local environments as well as public, private and hybrid clouds.

HOW DOES KUBERNETES WORK?   

Kubernetes allows you to create a cluster of virtual (or physical) machines which groups containers with application elements. The platform permits container management without changing the architecture of the entire application.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KUBERNETES AND DOCKER?    

Kubernetes is software which creates an environment facilitating the management of containers (commonly called Dockers). An application is placed in a container (Docker) which is then launched in a cluster managed via Kubernetes. Kubernetes is not the only container orchestration system: another example is Docker Swarm created by Docker.

WHY IS IT WORTH USING KUBERNETES?    

Kubernetes is one of the most universal and scalable container management systems, but this makes its installation and maintenance rather complicated. Other environments for container maintenance automation include e.g. Docker Swarm or RedShift by Red Hat. The former is relatively easy to install and requires only one set of tools for further work. It is also able to launch containers faster. The latter can be launched only in the Red Hat operating system, but it is relatively well integrated with the system and offers a higher security level as a standard.

WHEN SHOULD YOU CHOOSE MANAGED KUBERNETES?   

Kubernetes is a complex system for container maintenance. Managed Kubernetes is a model where care and control of the Kubernetes system is entrusted to a provider. The latter can manage Kubernetes automatically or manually depending on the expectations and the offer. Some companies willing to use Kubernetes are not prepared to deploy, integrate or manage its complex layers (e.g. the matters concerning load balancing, routing and general security and use of a cluster-based network model). Consequently, outsourcing is often the best choice. In-house management of Kubernetes requires the internal IT teams to obtain a range of new qualifications due to process complexity.
